Our Heritage Our Project Our Plan Our Leadership

From our inception in 1873, First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Worth has risen to the challenges of faith. The first days of ministry began with a small group gathered in a room over Knight's Livery Stable at Third and Calhoun. The early church built its first structure on Jones Street in 1877 and moved to the Fifth and Taylor Street location in 1916. The current facility on Penn Street was occupied on Sunday, December 23, 1956.The people of First Presbyterian Church have always been willing to embrace each challenge as an opportunity to demonstrate their desire to fulfill God's will for them.

As we mark our 133rd year of mission and ministry, never have the challenges been greater and the opportunities richer than they are today. In the past five years, worship attendance has increased over 18% and Church School attendance by more than 23%. We've received over 500 new members in those years. The Fort Worth area population continues to steadily climb. A recent study reported in the Star-Telegram showed Fort Worth as one of the top two fastest growing large cities in the country with over a 6% one-year growth rate. First Presbyterian is a vital participant in this community, and we must position ourselves to continue to serve this community with that same vitality as we grow together.

Just as it was for our Presbyterian brothers and sisters before us, this is an unprecedented time in the life of our church. Our calling is clear. We have been called to minister to a growing population - to reach out beyond ourselves and provide much-needed programs and services to our community and to equip this facility to serve the changing needs of our own children. Our generation must prepare our facility to provide for the opportunity God has put before us.
